Whole Roasted Cauliflower

Whole Roasted Cauliflower

So I’ve been Pinterest(ing) for about 2 years now. I would take an hour or so each week, with a cup of hot chocolate, sit on the couch and Pinterest. And my favourite boards are of course Food and occasionally Cars. The other day I found a recipe via Pinterest for Whole Roasted Cauliflower. I thought that was quite interesting: I had roasted cauliflower florets before, I had steamed them, mashed them and even casseroled them. But I had never heard of roasting the whole head. Of course, being me, I HAD to try it. So off to the grocer I went and bought what I needed. I made this delicious new creation last night and it was a hit! I adapted the recipe from PureWow and my changes I will add in bold in the recipe: Ingredients: 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 head...

Cleaning out the Closet

Cleaning out the Closet

A few days ago I was in the mood for a bowl of my childhood favourite cereal: “Maltabella”. And in February this year, I drove 2 hours into Holland to visit a South Africa store that sells this delicious malt porridge. The problem I have is that I don’t make it often due to morning time constraints. And hence, the package has been open in my cupboard for a long time. Of course, as with most things the package had a Best By Date on it which was end of March. I was distraught as I was really looking forward to it. All of this got me thinking that since I moved into my new home in December of last year, I have stocked my grocery cupboard and replenished every time I went to the grocery store. And as many of us would do when we are in a rush: I...

Soccer Fever hits my household

Soccer Fever hits my household

For those of you who don’t know me: I am a Green-Blooded South African! For those who are not sure what that mean: you need to know that those of us who have pledged our allegiance to the Green-Blooded Club, only support Rugby!!! Well…having said that, I have unintentionally found myself caught up in the most ridiculous game of “man-runs-after-ball-gets-kicked-in-shin-runs-crying-to-mommy”. When I met my (now) husband, we were living in a country where coming home safely and in one piece after driving on Sheikh Zayed Road was a sport all on its own. Never had I thought I would have to one day spend 90 minutes (and perhaps even overtime) of my life sitting in front of a screen watching a bunch of “pretty-boy” sissies chasing...

We’ve made it!

So you and I have made it into the second half of 2014! So far it has been quite a journey. I’ve had to adjust to a brand new life in a strange country (and I use the word “strange” loosely here). I’ve had to quickly learn how certain things work and I’ve also had to start learning the language. Germany has opened my eyes to a very very different world from the Middle East. Yes, Dubai is a “cosmopolitan” city with its sky-scrapers and on-the-edge-technology. But it is still rooted in its cultural and religious aspects. And having lived there for 5 years, I came to appreciate many of the different cultural differences the Middle East has to the West. Having also lived in London for a while and coming from South Africa, it...
