AdventMan

AdventMan

We are heading into our third Christmas in Germany. The first two Christmases, the hubster and I put up an Advent Calendar for his team at the office. The first year was pretty easy: I bought 24 silk bags from Depot and went on a bit of a shopping spree to get 24 little gifts. Then I sat in our hotel room (we were staying in the hotel while we searched for an apartment – having just moved here from Dubai), and I wrapped each little present (be it a small chocolate or fridge magnet) in festive wrapping paper, put them inside the silk baggies and tied them to a long thick string. On the last day of November, at around 10pm, hubby and I went to his office and hung it up, ready for them team to come to work the next day. It worked like a charm as the girls...

Vatertag – 14.05.15

Vatertag – 14.05.15

Such Dir einen Job! 2. Du musst erst an mir vorbei! 3. Ich bin überall! 4. Brichst Du ihr das Herz, brech ich Dir die Beine! 5. Brig sie 30 Minuten früher heim! 6. Nimm Dir einen Anwalt! 7. Lügst Du mich an, finde ich es heraus! 8. Sie...

Advent

Advent

With just under 7 weeks left till Christmas Eve, bringing us to 25 days left till the start of Advent, I thought I’d pop in a post about Advent and Advent Calendar Ideas. First off, I am not going to get into any religious debate over whether or not Advent or in fact Christmas has anything to do with the actual birth of Jesus Christ. Those debates are best left alone. According to Wikipedia: Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before December 25, which is the Sunday between November 27 and December 3 inclusive. There are many different traditions for Advent and the most common German...

Heading into the Holidays

Heading into the Holidays

So the Holiday Season is going to arrive very soon and I get super excited about this time of year. It’s gets super cold and Hot Chocolate is the drink of the Season. Cuddles on the couch under a warm blanket and perhaps a good book to help wash away the winter blues. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving here, but I do enjoy seeing photos of my America friends celebrating and enjoying Thanksgiving with their loved ones. And straight after Thanksgiving, we head into the Christmas Season – my favourite time of year and there is just 50 Days left till Christmas Eve – which is when Christmas is really celebrated in Germany. Over the next 7 weeks I will be posting about all things Christmas: Decor, Recipes, Gifts, you name it. I am already planning menus...

Our Mother

Our Mother

Our mum is patient but will tell you like it is, She is kind but don’t you mess with her kids or grandkids, She has a soft heart and cares for those around her, She shows strength…when many would show weakness, She shows love…even when you don’t deserve it, She’s our Inspiration! She’s our Mummu! And we love her! Written by Lady G on behalf of all three of Sharon’s amazing daughters: Mother’s Day is by far one of the most difficult “not-quite-a-holiday” Holiday for me. I have not spent a Mother’s Day with my mother for over 6 years due to the fact that I was always travelling or living in another city. And I often find myself quite jealous of both my sisters for living so close to her (Becks still...

Easter

Easter

We recently celebrated Easter. Now since there are many different beliefs as to what this holiday is all about, I am not going to open that discussion. What I do want to do is share with you some of the things I did in preparation for this long weekend we had. Firstly I must add that my parents-in-law visited us over the Easter weekend. They live roughly 488km north of us. I prepared the guest bedroom which also happens to be my Hobby room. I made some table decorations and even had some helpers… Granted, they were not very helpful. In fact after about 10 minutes I started to realise things were getting out of hand and they were sneaking chocolates away. It was only when Ben decided to visit, that the others kept their paws to themselves. I baked a bit as...
