Recipe Time – Banana Muffins

Recipe Time – Banana Muffins

Last week I teased the Banana Muffins on Social Media and it was received very well. A few people said they couldn’t wait for the recipe and I’m super excited about sharing this with you, because this is a recipe I got from my dad, but kind of made it my own. It not as sweet, has loads of Banana goodness, added fiber and a crunch brought in by walnuts. I buy bananas every week and I often buy more than we eat, just so that a few can get overripe so I can bake a Banana Bread. This recipe is actually for 1 Banana Bread, but I tweaked it into a Muffin recipe that yields 16 standard size muffins. Of course you can bake this in a mini muffin pan or a larger muffin pan – the yield will of course change accordingly. So without further blabber, here is...

The Naked Truth about the Naked Cake

The Naked Truth about the Naked Cake

So my brother-in-law recently tied the knot in a small intimate wedding ceremony. And I simply love being able to use that phrase: Tied the knot, because the wedding in fact took place on a ship! Now, weddings in Germany are done a bit differently to let’s say where I am from, South Africa – where a priest / church minister can perform a religious ceremony and is sort of authorized to “marry” a couple. The marriage is then legally binding. Here in Germany it’s a little different, in that couples first get married in what is called the “Standesamt”, loosely translated to “Marriage Court”. Some cities or towns have really lovely locations where the Standesamt is situated. The Hubster and I for instance got...

Three Detectives

Three Detectives

So this one was a strange one. I got a cake order from a lovely mother of a girl who was turning 10: she wanted a cake made for the birthday party. We had talked about it about a month before, but due to me still suffering from baby brain (hey! It’s totally a thing), I had already forgotten about the theme of the party. Anyway, the mum caught me up and sent me her request: her daughter wanted a cake based on the current school favorite novels called “The Three Investigators”, or more commonly known in German as “Die Drei Fragezeichen”. Now being as old as I am, I had never heard of these books. I grew up on the characters of Kathy and Mark in primary school and eventually found my love of all things Horror and the US State of Maine...

The Tale of the Bear and the Monkey

So we recently celebrated my Little Girl’s First Birthday. Whoa! Can someone say “Milestone”!!! For her actual birthday, we visited my in-laws and brought together the hubster’s family for a small get-together. It was a lovely afternoon spent with cake and presents. But I must admit: leading up to the main event, I seemed to be going through a bit of an emotional few days. If you haven’t read about my journey to finally welcoming my Peanut to the world in 2015, go ahead and read it here. So as I prepared for the big milestone of the 1st Birthday, I think my hormones kicked in big time 🙂 Anyway, I knew that I wanted to be the one to make my Peanut’s first birthday cake. I consider myself an ok baker and just felt it was...

The Preggy Belly Cake

The Preggy Belly Cake

When my husband came home from work one evening and told me over dinner that his colleague was expecting her first child, my mind went into overdrive. Those who know me, or know me well would tell you that I love seeing people happy. More than that: I love making people happy. And for the last 8 years or so, I made people happy the only way I know how: by baking for them. Often surprising them with a cake or cupcakes or cookies. So back to this particular cake: first I must give a short back story… Germans do not do baby showers. They do not believe in buying the baby gifts before he/she is born. They see it as bad luck. And living in Germany for almost 2 years meant that when I fell pregnant I had to resign myself to that fact. Anyway, I had tried to...

Frozen

Frozen

Those who know me, know that I am a sucker for anything Disney. Ever since I was a little girl, the fairy tales, princes and princesses, evil queens and talking animals and of course the songs!!! And when the movie “Frozen” came out in 2013, I of course had to see it. And since I am one of three girls, and being stuck in the middle, I really loved this movie. And lately I have also been of the opinion that sister’s are not only those who are biologically linked and share a mother or a father. No! Sisters come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life and from every country and therefore culture – these are called “girlfriends”. And I am not only very blessed in life to have 2 awesome biological sisters back in South...
