Saffie living in Germany

IMG_5265

I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. And in more ways than I care to admit, it is still home. It’s where my parents still live and where I can lay my head to rest, whenever I want. However, I would be the first to admit, that the day I got my first passport, my feet were itching to travel. My first overseas trip was Holland – and it was an eye-opener. I was fortunate enough to have lived and worked in England, I returned to Cape Town in the hopes that I would settle down, get married and have kids. That didn’t happen and I found myself on an airplane to the Middle East. I called Dubai “Home” for 5 years. And in those 5 years, I met my wonderful husband who is German. In those 5 years I travelled to Europe, got married in the quaint little town of Lübeck (which is north of Hamburg, Germany) and Honeymooned in Asia. Nearly 5 years after leaving the city I grew up in, Cape Town, I now find myself settled and loving Düsseldorf, Germany – and I do call it “Home” now.

I spend my days attending Integration School where I am learning the German Language (and let me tell you, it ain’t easy – but it is easier for me having Afrikaans as a second language than it is for many of my classmates). After 600 hours, I then have a short “Integration” Course. After that I will be fully integrated into German society.

I plan on blogging my way through my time here. I am a bit of a drifter and hubby keeps us both grounded. So it does look like I will be here for a little while longer 🙂
